If tea had a candy flavor, I’d easily use this blend as the basis..
This was gifted to me by a good friend and fellow tea aficionado, Lindsay (aka TokyoAcid), when she saw that I am just about as insanely obsessed with tea as she is. After some back and forth gushing on twitter, she sent me a care package of several samples, and the moment I opened the bag I was hit with a delicious, sweet aroma. Like a Jolly Rancher! Not even joking.
The smell was torturous and I awkwardly sniffed through all the samples to find the culprit, and happened upon the momijigari bag which was undoubtedly the source. Needless to say, I immediately brewed myself a cup – and then immediately fell in love.
Despite the strong fragrance, the taste was pleasantly well blended, not overwhelming the natural tea by a long shot. But the apple & apricot flavors are still freshly prevalent. This tastes great with some light sweetening, and makes a great option to sit in a tea-warming pot to fill a room up with great smells if you’re having company.
Unfortunately, as I found out the hard way, momijigari is a seasonal blend only available during the autumn so it’s going to be half a yearh before it’s available to purchase again. I’ll be watching intently for the sale date…
Leaves are teeny tiny, so this is ideally brewed with an infuser with a fine mesh!
